SDRI experience is founded on its most notable projects in Somalia to date, namely, the setting -up of a resilience innovation hub funded by US. Global Development Lab, USAID in Mogadishu, Disaster Resilience Leadership Program funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in South central, Puntland and Somaliland and Program to Enhance the Resilience in Somalia (PROGRESS) funded by USAID.

We provided training and capacity building, research and formative assessments, awareness and sensitization programs in support of the Climate and Conflict Resilience and Resilience Innovations for better enhanced livelihoods, strengthening food security of communities and strengthening their institutional capacity through leadership in Somalia. SDRI in conjunction with FAOSWALIM are working on the creation of innovative Climate and Early Warning Data Center at SDRI to further build the resilience of local farmers and business enterprise to enhance livelihoods and food security with specific focus on women and youth. The project SDRI/FAOSWALIM Data Center program includes development of Bulk SMS messages for hydro and meteorological hazards early warning for the vulnerable communities in South Central Somalia and Community Management Disaster Risk Reduction Development.

As of now, SDRI is supporting the Ministries of Federal Government of Somalia, Somalia Disaster Management Agency, Somali Research and Education Network (SomaliREN), IGAD, UNICEF, DFID, EU and USAID in their efforts to build resilience of Somalia people, enhance the household livelihoods, food security and knowledge exchange
