SDRI and UPEACE Launch 2nd Intake for the Academic Programmes In Somalia

UPEACE and SDRI are pleased to inform prospective applicants that the new January 2019 intake for the Masters and
PhD Programmes is open.

The United Nations University for Peace (UPEACE) was created on December 5th, 1980 by the General Assembly of the
United Nations through Resolution 35/55 with headquarters in Costa Rica, Central America. It has Regional Centers in
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, China, Philippines, Columbia and joint programmes in Austria, South Korea, Monaco and
Honduras. Through the Africa Regional Centre based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, UPEACE implements Master's and
doctoral Programmes and strengthens the capacity of African Universities, Research Institutes, Think tanks, Regional
Economic Communities as well as the African Union and United Nations agencies through teaching, training, research
and publication and community outreach. UPEACE has functional capacity-building agreements with 27 institutions in
Africa.

In Collaboration with Somali Disaster Resilience Institute (SDRI) based in Mogadishu, UPEACE launched a series of
academic programmes to support Somalia's post-conflict peacebuilding and development agenda. Following a MoU signed
between the two institutions on August 14the, 2018, the Somali Disaster Resilience Institute will be hosting the following
UPEACE Master and PhD Programmes

Admission Start Date: January 01 – 2019 End Date: February 10, 2019

Program Duration: 12 Months
Course Structure: 12 courses over 12 months in two semesters and an independent research project
Study Mode:
Part Time: Afternoons of Thursdays, Fridays (Full Day) and Saturdays
Block Teaching: Lectures are taught in an intensive block of two weeks twice in the semester
Program Cost and Tuition: The complete cost of the programme is $ 3500, which covers:

  • A non-refundable Application and Enrolment fees: $500
  • MA. tuition fee: $3000
  • Per Term Extension charge (If you don’t finish in time (12 months) and anything more 18 months): $1000 per
    term

Programme costs are paid as follows:

  •  A non-refundable Admin and Enrolment1 fee: $500 (payable in 2 instalments of $250 each)
  • First Semester 50% tuition fee: $1500 (payable in 2 instalments of $750 each)
  • Second Semester 50% tuition fee: $1500 (payable in 2 instalments of $750 each)
  • Failure to graduate on time will attract an Extension Charge: $1000

PhD Program Tuition Fees: $20,000 (limited partial discounts are available)
